Role Summary:
The Lights Team Lead is responsible for designing, programming, and operating the lighting environment for church services and events. This role involves creating visually engaging atmospheres that enhance worship and message delivery. The Lights Team Lead oversees the lighting team, manages technical equipment, and ensures lighting cues are executed flawlessly in collaboration with the production team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lighting Design & Operation:
- Create and program dynamic lighting designs that align with the service flow and creative vision.
- Operate lighting consoles during services and events to execute lighting cues.
- Maintain a balance between creative expression and distraction-free worship experiences.
- Team Leadership:
- Recruit, train, and schedule lighting volunteers.
- Provide clear instructions to team members for cue execution and best practices.
- Mentor volunteers to develop their technical and creative lighting skills.
- Technical Management:
- Ensure all lighting equipment is properly maintained, set up, and stored.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to lighting systems promptly.
- Manage updates for lighting software and firmware as needed.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the production director, worship leaders, and video/audio teams to synchronize lighting with other production elements.
- Attend rehearsals to fine-tune lighting cues and transitions.
- Creative Innovation:
- Stay updated on new lighting techniques and trends to enhance the worship experience.
- Implement creative lighting elements for special events or sermon series.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in lighting consoles and DMX-based systems (e.g., GrandMA, Chamsys, or similar)
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Excellent problem-solving abilities under pressure
- Creative eye for lighting design and atmosphere creation
- Willingness to train and mentor volunteers
Time Commitment:
- Weekly Sunday services and occasional midweek events
- Rehearsals and production meetings as needed
